The FRES Writers’ Club is offered to select 4th graders who would benefit from extra practice in reading and writing to a prompt.
In January of each school year, a practice ELA assessment is given to all students. Teachers at FRES score these assessments and look for students who may need some extra help before the New York State ELA assessment is given in late April.
Students work in a small group (5/6 students) with a FRES teacher. This program takes place before school two days a cycle for a total of 16 sessions. This will begin the beginning of February and run through the middle of April. This model gives our Publishers’ Club teachers the opportunity to work individually with each student on specific reading comprehension and expressive writing skills and strategies.
