French Road Elementary School

Fifth Graders Learn About Civil Rights on Mobile Museum of Tolerance

Posted Date: 02/05/26 (09:00 AM)

All French Road Elementary School fifth graders received a unique lesson when the Mobile Museum of Tolerance visited the school in January. Unlike a traditional museum where visitors walk around and view various exhibits, the Mobile Museum of Tolerance contains seating for up to 30 visitors who experience a series of immersive, interactive educational modules on a range of subjects.

FRES students participated in a workshop centered around lessons from the non-violent Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. The workshop opened with students reflecting on themselves and what is important to them, which led to a conversation about how our differences can make us stronger as a community. Students watched a brief documentary to hear from leaders of this non-violent movement, such as John Lewis, in order to discuss why non-violence was such an important strategy, even when it might have been difficult. The workshop ended with students brainstorming and discussing how they can build a community where everyone is treated equally in Brighton.
