Students Across Make Community Impact on Brighton Believes Day of Caring

Posted Date: 04/02/26 (07:00 AM)

All Brighton students participated in a day of service during the Brighton Believes Day of Caring on March 11. The four schools offered age-appropriate service projects and guests that allowed students to demonstrate the Brighton Beliefs and help others.

Council Rock Primary School students collected 508 cereal boxes for the Brighton Food Cupboard. The school lined up the boxes like dominoes and set them off before donating them.

French Road Elementary School supported Happy Birthday Cha Cha Cha, a local organization that provides birthday bags for families in need. Their goal is that each child feels noticed and cared about on their birthday.  So, on their special day, they bring a burst of joy by providing both wants and needs. The school collected 1,300 boxes of macaroni and cheese and students added kindness quotes to every box. Third graders decorated about 300 birthday cards and fourth graders wrapped about birthday gifts. Fifth graders lined up the mac and cheese boxes like dominoes and set them off before donating them.

Twelve Corners Middle School celebrated the 100th anniversary of the school. The school held an assembly where former principals Terry Quinn and Rob Thomas, Town Supervisor Bill Moehle, Superintendent Dr. Kevin McGowan, and Student Council President Jackson Bonanno reflected on what TCMS has meant to generations of students and families. Following the assembly, all students participated in meaningful service projects. These included creating suncatchers for local nursing communities, kindness rocks to be placed along local trails, and friendship bracelets to share with the Bivona Child Advocacy Center.

Brighton High School students completed numerous service projects. They collected over 500 food items for the Brighton Food Cupboard; assembled over 220 period packs for the Center for Youth; created over 170 birthday cards for the Make A Wish Foundation; created over 400 individual laundry detergent packs for the Center for Youth; created over 70 fleece blankets for the Center for Youth, Owen’s House, and the Open Door Mission; created over 300 pairs of no slip socks for the Center for Youth, Owen’s House, and the Open Door Mission; wrote over 80 supportive and positive letters to men and women serving in the military all over the world as part of the “A Million Thanks” Project; assembled close to 800 peanut butter and jelly sandwich bag lunches to go to the Open Door Mission; and raised over $2,500 for the Senior Class of 2026 and the PTSA Support Fund.

Thank you to all of the PTSA volunteers, staff members, and student clubs and teams that helped make the event a success.
